In early 1995 I was pregnant with my only daughter who was born five weeks early on March 7th. Shortly before she was born, I was alone at home watching ice dancing on TV in my living room, when I saw your Dracula performance. I was immediately captivated by the music you chose, the costumes you wore, the precision and elegance of your dancing, and by Marina’s beauty. I learned that the piece you had skated to was from Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and soon after that someone told me that the main female character in that movie was named “Mina.” My name is Mina, and by then I had danced ballroom and swing for seven years, and even participated in some minor competitions. I also love the ocean, and things of the ocean, including marinas. With all these facts coming together at the same time I knew that the perfect name for my daughter was “Marina.” She is now 18 years old. I have never been a fan of horror movies, so I had never seen Bram Stoker’s Dracula. But yesterday, my daughter and I sat down and watched it. Today, when my husband and I came home, my daughter, who knew the story of her name from a very young age, said to me, “Guess what I found?” She presented something for me to see on her iPod and I watched as something resembling a red cone began to rise and lower. She had gone onto youtube and found your Dracula performance. I had not seen it for 18-1/2 years, although I had searched for it in the years before youtube. It was magical watching it again. Thank you for inspiring me. We live in Pasadena, California, but we hope to some day drive up to your studio so that Marina can meet Marina (and Sergei of course).
